Laramie Terry

I was born in Elko, Nevada and grew up on the back of a horse. My father worked on ranches in Nevada and then we moved to Idaho and started training reined cowhorses full time. I grew up following him, learning how to train and show horses from an early age.

I entered my first rodeo when I was 3 years old, and was hooked. I qualified for the Idaho Junior Rodeo Finals every year from the time I was 10, in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, and team roping. In high school rodeo, I qualified for the Idaho State High School Rodeo Finals every year as well, in team roping, breakaway roping, cutting, and pole bending. When I wasn't rodeoing I was involved in 4-H, FFA, showing in the NRCHA, and helping my father in his business.

My first year of college, my rodeo horse was in a car wreck being hauled to a rodeo, and it changed my focus to completing my education and training horses. I finished my degree program in 3 years, and graduated with a B.S. in Equine Science. I then started training horses full time. I worked with clients from California to Idaho to Texas. I started colts, trained barrel horses and rope horses, and spent some time showing in Stock Horse shows.

This past year I was given the opportunity to campaign a 4 year old mare on the barrels for a client and that gave me the push to start competing professionally again. I have been out on the road since June and am working on filling my WPRA permit. I am now seasoning 3 of my own horses, and plan to rodeo full time throughout the next year. I am going to focus on the Texas circuit this coming year, with my ultimate goal being the NFR when my horses are finished. I am at a rodeo or barrel race every weekend, and taking young horses to small barrel races during the week as well. I have some great horses coming up and starting to show some real potential, and I am excited to see what this coming year will bring.
