The time has come for the APHA World Championship Show for the open and amateur exhibitors. This is the first year it has returned to September instead of November. The 2017 show will take place from September 20 – October 1.
On my previous post about road trip necessities, I included several pictures of places I have been to on either a little day trip adventure or a long haul road trip. One of those day trip locations was the beautiful Tallgrass Prairie Preserve located outside of Pawhuska, Okla., in Osage County.

The scent of pumpkin spice lattes are filling the air while vibrant, warm hued leaves are covering the ground—autumn is coming, whether you’re ready for it or not! I am personally more of a summer, warm weather type of gal myself, but there is something about fall that brings a sense of optimism and change! The equine industry is a big loving family. This means we are all there for one another when tragedy hits, no matter what form it comes in. The southern states have been rocked the past few weeks with Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Texas, Louisiana, and Florida were targeted by these massive storms. Here are some tips for horse owners in the path of these hurricanes, or anyone wanting to help those affected.
Life has a funny way of taking us through the refiner’s fire. We are ever changing and in that fact, maybe always searching for who or what we truly are. As a ranch wife, mother of 4, singer/songwriter, and cowboy girl, I have spent many hours wondering “What am I”.
We all know the saying... "There is no time like the present". Well, with all due respect, I might just disagree. Fashion speaking, it's hard to know exactly what trend will roll around the corner next, but thankfully for us, Vintage is ALWAYS in! Recently, the western fashion world has exploded! Whether you're a sassy Grandmother sporting some custom revamped Canty Boots or a Victoria Secret model rocking some serious quality felt lids, mixing our favorite Western wear with retro pieces is a sure-fire way to stand out from the crowd!
The implementation of YouTube videos for equine businesses has boosted performance in many ways. Professionals have started using video production for marketing and informative purposes. In this blog we will talk about popular YouTube channels within our industry.
In life and in fashion, a solid foundation is the key to success. Jeans are the foundation of a cowgirl’s wardrobe – the staple piece that we dress up or dress down in the rodeo arena and in the office – and our style starts with our signature denim. We wear our favorite jeans through thick and thin just like the core of our personalities remain steadfast through both the good and the bad. The two words that describe the foundation of who I am and the person that I strive to be each and every day are “kindness matters” and the foundation of my fashion is quality, comfort and fit. My foundation is Kimes and kindness.
When my grandparents bought our ranch, more than seven decades ago, they started with two kids, 13 cows, and one heck of a dream. With a lot of hard work, perseverance, and a good deal of patience, my family has been able to create quite the legacy; and I’m so very fortunate that my Husband and I are the two people who get to further my grandparent’s dream for another generation.
The National Snaffle Bit Association hosted their World Championship Show this past week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show is open to AQHA and all color breeds exhibitors. If you walk into any major AQHA/APHA/color breed show today, you will more than likely see yearling lunge line on the show bill. This class has taken off within the last few years and is becoming a huge hit. Making this a futurity event also has increased entry numbers.
If we are making a long haul trip or even a little day trip, I always like to have food and drinks available. It saves a lot of money, time and ensures that we can have something healthy to eat. In addition to food and beverages, there are a few other items I love to have within arms reach to make all of us more comfortable.
