A new, never-before seen event is coming to the reining horse industry! It will be called The Run for a Million. This event was created by Academy Award Nominee Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan is the co-creator of Yellowstone, writer/director of Wind River, and writer of Hell or High Water and Sacario. Sheridan partnered with Amanda Brumley of Brumley Management Group that produces multiple reining events.

American Stock Horse Association - National Collegiate Championship Show

This past month the American Stock Horse Association hosted their National Collegiate Championship Show in Sweetwater, Texas. The ASHA created the collegiate branch about fifteen years ago and it has become a popular program. At Nationals, students are placed into individual divisions based on their level of cow work, either Novice, Limited, or Non-Pro.

She has been riding and showing horses her entire life. She won her first World Championship title at the young age of five. She continues competing across the country today.

Leading by Example

“I showed my first cutter when I was 11,” Cromer said. “It didn’t take long to love it. It is such a natural ability for the horse. The horse is better at reading the cow than a person is once you get them trained. It’s like a Border Collie. I like to explain it to people like that. It’s a natural instinct for a horse to work cows instead of other disciplines where they are trained to do a maneuver. That’s the difference to me. They are cow horses and they learn how to read cows and do a job instead of it just being what we tell them to do.”

Adding Some Color

Wade Parks was born and raised around horses. His parents ran a boarding barn and gave lessons when he was growing up. Parks attended Middle Tennessee State University after high school. He started out his training career by working for Ty and Karen Hornick and Brian Cox. He then married fellow trainer Carly Parks and they now both run Parks Show Horses.
