The Ride to the NFR: Part 1

The National Finals Rodeo is one of the biggest equine events of the year. Top professional athletes from across the world compete for the chance to be crowned a National Champion. Jessie Telford is experiencing her chance this year as she heads to the NFR for the first time.

Telford grew up in central Oregon on a cattle ranch. Rodeo was in her blood. Her parents were both very involved in the rodeo circuits. Her grandfather, Gene Clark, is even in the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. Telford was destined to be in the rodeo world.

“Rodeo runs deep in my family,” Telford said. “I grew up competing in junior rodeos and competed in every event possible. Barrel racing was always my favorite. I attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California and then moved to Caldwell, Indiana when I was 23. I have been here ever since.”

The path it takes to get qualified and make it to the NFR is a hard one. Telford has never competed there before, but she is ecstatic to have her chance to run down the famous alley towards the barrel pattern.

“It’s been an awesome journey so far this summer and I’m far more excited than nervous,” Telford said. “I can’t wait for that first run down the alley!”

Telford loves how Kimes Ranch offers many different styles of jeans for her different events in life. She has a favorite style for each one.

“I love the simplicity and classy look of all the Kimes Ranch Jeans,” Telford said. “My favorite for running barrels in is the Francesca. My new all-around favorite is the Lola. I also love the Betty for going out.”

Another important job Telford has is being a mother of two girls. They are very involved in sports and horses. She is also hopeful they will follow in her footsteps with their wardrobe choices.

“I don’t have much spare time, but I love helping and watching my girls play basketball,” Telford said. “Sierra is 12 and Shawny is 13. Shawny is just starting to fit into women’s jeans. She can’t wait to finally wear some Kimes.”

We are so excited to cheer on Jessie Telford during the NFR this year. We are so proud to have her be a KRJ team member. Kimes Ranch wishes her the best of luck! Be sure to tune in and watch the NFR December 6-15.
